ATWOOD -- Quentin A. Bergling, 91, died Tuesday (April 6, 2010), at the Good Samaritan Center in Atwood.

He was born March 15, 1919, at Ludell, to Albert and Nanna Louise (Olson) Bergling. He grew up on the family farm eight miles east and one mile south of Atwood. He graduated from Atwood High School in 1939.

On Oct. 26, 1941, he married Olive Hurst at Oberlin. He was a farmer and raised cattle.

He served in the 314th Troop Carrier Group Army Air Corps during World War II. He was a member of the Lions Club in Herndon, the American Legion in Atwood and the Veterans of Foreign Wars in Colby, Kan.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Sylvia O'Neill; and a grandson, Casey McPheeters.

Survivors include his wife, Olive of Atwood; his children, Jeri and Mac McPheeters of Colby, David and Sherry Bergling of Oberlin, Richard and Susan Bergling of Quinter, Kan.; seven grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

The memorial service will be Wednesday, 2 p.m., at the United Methodist Church in Atwood with the Rev. Gary Davison officiating.

There is no visitation as the family chose cremation.
