OBERLIN -- Fern May Jording, 93, died Saturday (March 27, 2010) at Cedar Living Center in Oberlin.
She was born May 17, 1916, in Decatur County, Kan., to Franklin Towery and Augusta Soderlund. She grew up on a farm near Kanona in Decatur County. She attended Kanona and District 49 schools.
On Nov. 8, 1935, she married Alvin Jording in Norton. She lived on a farm near Oberlin and later in Oberlin.
She was a homemaker.
She was member of St. John's Lutheran Church, St. John's Altar Guide, Lutheran Women's Missionary League, Alpha Kappa Club and American Legion Auxilliary.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Alvin Jording; her parents, Franklin and Augusta Towery; her infant son, Larry; her son, Duane; daughter-in-law, Janice Jording; and three brothers, Edwin, Norman and Loren Towery.
Survivors include her son, Clayton Jording of Medford, Ore.; her daughter, Marjorie Law and husband, Philip of Lakewood, Colo.; one brother, Francis Towery of Indiantown, Fla.; three sisters, Norma Kellett of Longmont, Colo., Leola Curtis of Medford, Ore., and Lila Englehart of Almena; eight grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; one step-granddaughter and two great-great-grandchildren.
Memorial services are Wednesday, 11 a.m., at St. John's Lutheran Church in Oberlin with the Rev. Kevin Schnakenberg officiating. Interment to follow at Oberlin Cemetery.
Visitation is today, 8 a.m. to 8 p.m., at the funeral home and Wednesday prior to service time at the church.
Memorials may be given to St. John's Lutheran Church or Golden Age Center.
