Helen Marie (Wendland) Wendland

ARAPAHOE -- Helen Marie (Wendland) Wendland, 78, died Sunday (March 14, 2010) at Cambridge Memorial Hospital.

She was born July 15, 1931, in Gosper County to Oscar and Elsie (Monter) Wendland. She was baptized on July 26, 1931, at Immanuel Lutheran Church north of Arapahoe. She attended Immanuel Lutheran elementary school and was confirmed on May 27, 1945. She finished her high school education at Arapahoe High School and graduated with the class of 1949.

On Sept. 4, 1949, she married Victor Wendland. She lived in the Holbrook community until her health declined. She chose to move to Good Samaritan Assisted Living and then to the nursing home in Arapahoe.

She clerked the Village of Holbrook board meetings until her retirement at the age of 70. She worked part-time at the State Farm Insurance office in Arapahoe, Cambridge and McCook until she retired.

She was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Cambridge since 1952.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Victor Wendland; her parents, Oscar and Elsie Wendland; sisters, Eunice Paxton, Eleanor Shelor, Glenva Wendland and a brother, Glen Wendland.

Survivors include her five daughters, Vicky and husband, Larry Warner of Funk, Teresa and husband, Neal Meyers of Holbrook, Kathy and husband, Ric Meyers of Holbrook, Lana and husband, Steve Hilker of Arapahoe, Ida and husband, Keith Soncksen of Arapahoe; sister-in-law, Helene Dickmeyer of Arapahoe; 14 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren and one great-great grandchild.

Funeral services will be Thursday, 2 p.m., at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Cambridge with Vicar James Moshier officiating. Burial will be at the Immanuel Lutheran Cemetery in Arapahoe.

Viewing and visitation will be Wednesday, 9 a.m. to 8 p.m., at Wenburg Funeral Home in Arapahoe and prior to the service at the church on Thursday.
