KEARNEY -- Thelma L. Ruby, 95, of Kearney, Neb., and formerly of McCook died Wednesday (March 10, 2010) at St. John's Good Samaritan Center in Kearney.
Thelma was born Nov. 8, 1914, in Lebanon, Neb., the daughter of the late Vern and Sarah (Railsbach) Morris. She lived in Lebanon until she married Ernest Ruby in 1933. Ernest preceded her in death on Jan. 8, 1987, in McCook. They spent their married life in McCook where they raised their family.
Thelma operated her beauty shop in McCook for over sixty years.
She said reading was one of the great loves of her life, but her singing, her piano and organ playing, her church activities and most of all her husband and her children, were her greatest passions. She also loved gardening.
Survivors include her four children and their spouses, Richard and Rosanne Ruby, Sharon and James Doyle, Patricia and Roger Ferrel and Jaculin and Gary Dudder; her grandchildren, Jon Ruby, Michelle Koester, Nancy Barta, Jennifer Jackson, Heather Bos, Maureen Carlson, Marc Major, Jim Doyle, Jeff Witt, Wesley Ferrel, Nathan Ferrel and Jeannine Ferrel; and great-grandchildren, Jacob Barta, Kimberly Schulz, Bleys Witt and Barret Witt.
Memorial services will be Saturday, March 13, 2010, 3 p.m., at the Herrmann Memorial Chapel in McCook with the Rev. Lance Clay officiating. Inurnment will be in Memorial Park Cemetery in McCook.
There will be no visitation and memorials are suggested to Joseph School of Hair Design Scholarship fund in Kearney.
