Crane cam goes live Saturday

Friday, March 5, 2010
KEARNEY -- The largest gathering of sandhill cranes in the world happens right here in Kearney, Nebraska. ESU 10 and Audubon's Rowe Sanctuary are teaming together to provide educational programs to schools and the public. One of the collaborative projects is the Crane Cam, which goes live on Saturday, March 6, 2010. ESU 10 is hosting the Crane Cam through their servers which allows anyone connected to the internet to view the sandhill cranes at Rowe Sanctuary on their computer 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Log into Rowe Sanctuary's website to view the cranes here.

Ron Cone, Director of ESU 10's Network Information Systems, says "Using cutting-edge streaming video technology, the Crane Cam is a tool that gives access into the lives of these birds and gives viewers from all over the world the opportunity to make discoveries about the crane's behaviors and habits. We are proud to be collaborating with Rowe Sanctuary on this project."

Educational Service Unit 10 -- A Nebraska state agency developed in 1965 to provide supplemental educational opportunities and services to public schools in their district and throughout the state. The area they serve covers approximately 9,325 square miles and includes an estimated 27,100 students in grades K-12.

Audubon's Rowe Sanctuary mission is to conserve the Platte River Ecosystem for sandhill cranes and other wildlife through education and conservation.
