LINCOLN -- Audrey Mae Lockenour, 83, died Saturday (Feb. 20, 2010) at Eastmont Care Center in Lincoln from a stroke.

She was born Nov. 24, 1926, on a farm near Cambridge the only child of Charles and Frances (Kleinschmidt) Lockenour. After attending a rural school, she graduated from Cambridge High School in 1944.

She trained as a teacher at Kearney State Teachers College, graduating with a bachelor's degree in 1951. She taught in rural schools in Furnas and Red Willow Counties, and in public schools in Imperial and Holdrege. In 1955, Audrey moved to Lincoln where she was employed by the Lincoln Public Schools, teaching in Belmont and Saratoga elementary schools. Later she was a librarian at University Place, Anderson and Gere libraries.

She was active in the Christian Business and Professional Women's organization and was a member of Central Christian and Missionary Alliance Church. She committed her life to Jesus Christ in 1962.

Memorial service was today, 10 a.m., at Metcalf Funeral Home in Lincoln. Burial will be at a later date in the Fairview Cemetery in Cambridge. Cremation, no visitation.
