BENKELMAN -- Berdeina M. Farrell, 89, died Tuesday (Feb. 16, 2010) at Dundy County Hospital in Benkelman.
She was born Dec. 18, 1920, at Hastings, to Benjamin H. and Mabel Anne (Nelson) Mulvany.
On Sept. 9, 1939, she married Chester T. Farrell at Benkelman. She moved to McCook for a short time where Chester worked for the railroad. After her husband's return from World War II she moved to Benkelman where she operated the creamery and helped with the delivery of crops and produce. In September of 1948, she moved with her family to Boise, Idaho. After her husband's retirement in 1974 she moved back to the Benkelman community.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Chester Farrell; her parents, Benjamin and Mabel Mulvany; one son, Dallas Alan Farrell; sisters, Wauneta Mulvany, Lorene Sawdon and her husband, Roland; brother-in-law, Foster Gerdes; and her uncle, Ted Mulvany.
Survivors include her daughters, Carroll Spencer and husband, Don of Bloomington, Ind., Janice Van Houten and husband, Michael of Meridian, Idaho, Melinda Buchan and husband, Skip of San Bruno, Calif.; sister, Lucille Gerdes of Benkelman; 21 grandchildren; 30 great-grandchildren and five great-great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be Friday, 11 a.m., at Forch Funeral Chapel in Benkelman with the Rev. George Matthews officiating. Interment will follow services at the Benkelman Cemetery.
The family will be present to receive friends today from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the funeral home.
In lieu of usual remembrances, it is suggested that memorials be given in Berdeina's name to the Susan G. Komen Foundation.
