Lloyd Ray Stretch

Lloyd Ray Stretch, 88, died Friday (Feb. 12, 2010) at McCook Community Hospital in McCook.

He was born June 17, 1921, at Wauneta, the son of the late Ira Mart and Flora Estella (Bennett) Stretch. Lloyd grew up at Wauneta where he graduated from Wauneta High School in 1941.

He entered the U.S. Army serving during World War II. Following his honorable discharge from the service he returned to Wauneta and married Roberta Marie Schroeder on May 8, 1946 at Grant. For two years they farmed at Burlington, Colo., before purchasing a farm west of Culbertson where he farmed full time for 55 years. He remained on his farm where he loved to be most.

Lloyd was a member of the Moorhouse - Steffen - Propp V.F.W. Post 6219 and the Adam Miller American Legion Post 133 in Culbertson.

He was preceded in death by his wife Roberta on June 18, 1989.

Lloyd is survived by one daughter, Shirley Stretch-Stephenson of Tujunga, Calif.; two sons, Floyd Stretch and wife, Kathy of Fort Collins, Colo., and Jim Stretch of Kenai, Alaska; brothers, Oscar Stretch of Longmont, Colo., and Leslie Stretch of Hamlet; sisters, Ellen Prior of Hastings, Ethel Bridgman of Palisade and Lola Kennedy of Culbertson; four grandchildren, Scot Stretch and wife Jamie, Shawn Stretch, Rochelle Stretch and Stuart Stretch; two great-grandchildren, Isaac Stretch and Ella Stretch and relatives and friends.

Funeral services will be Thursday, 10:30 a.m., at the Trinity United Methodist Church in Culbertson with the Rev. Corey Jenkins officiating. Interment with Military Honors will be in the Culbertson Cemetery at Culbertson.

Memorials may be given in his name and visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. at the Herrmann Funeral Chapel in Culbertson.
