Viola Jean "Vi" Koler, 95, died Thursday (Feb. 11, 2010) at McCook Community Hospital.

She was born May 27, 1914, at Minden, Neb., the daughter of the late James F. and Hulda (Johnson) Nielsen. Vi grew up at Upland, Neb., moving to Culbertson in 1929. She graduated from Trenton High School at Trenton, Neb., in 1932.

On June 2, 1932, Vi married Alex Koler at McCook. They moved with the railroad to Denver, Colo., in 1950. In 1954 they returned to McCook where they spent the remainder of their lives. From 1963 to 1970, Vi was a registered dental assistant to Dr. McKinty.

She was a member of Eureka Chapter 86, Order of Eastern Star. A member of the Burlington Veterans Association and China Painters of McCook.

She was preceded in death by her husband Alex on Oct. 17, 1974; step-daughter Irene Koler; four brothers, Virgil, Milton, William and Russell Nielsen; sisters, Isabelle Keiley and Dorothe Robertson.

Survivors include one daughter, Karole Suttie and husband, Peter of Waubaushene, Ontario, Canada; three grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; four nephews, including Roger Moreau and wife, Susan of McCook; seven nieces including Paula Jacobsen and husband, Ron; relatives and friends.

Graveside services were today, 11 a.m., at Memorial Park Cemetery with the Rev. Lance Clay officiating. Interment at Memorial Park Cemetery.
