Fifth grader Kyli Scott distributes her pennies among penny boxes designated for each of five fifth grade classrooms at Central Elementary in McCook. Kyli and her fellow students have raised money for earthquake relief to Haiti by trying NOT to be the classroom with the most money. Teacher Denise Lee's students hoisted the money boxes Monday afternoon, trying to determine if they could figure out by weight if they should add or subtract a few pennies or redistribute their own pennies into boxes earmarked for classes led by teachers Gayl Korus, Kay Neuhaus, Bev Hoyt and Dee Friehe. Money raised by the students will be donated to the American Red Cross or UNICEF. Lee's students testing pennies by weight are, front row, from left: Jole Keen and David Anderson. Second row: Ethan Sims, Brandon Ulmer and Cameron Dack. Third row: Brenna Erdman, Austin Karas and Emily Wells. Back row: Emma Larington, Desarea Balderston, Jaret Matson, Tatum Radel and Devin Perez.
