Mary Angela Schenck

Mary Angela Schenck, 77, died Saturday (Jan. 30, 2010) at Hillcrest Nursing Home in McCook.

She was born on March 14, 1932, to Thomas and Catherine (Boyle) Hoatson at North Platte. She graduated from St. Patrick's High School in North Platte in 1940. She attended the University of San Jose in San Jose, Calif.

On August 4, 1954, she married William R. Schenck at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Sutherland. She lived in Grand Island until 1957 when William was transferred to McCook. Five children were born to this union: Monica, Barbara, Karen, Joe and Elaine.

She was a member of St. Patrick's Church and a long time member of the McCook YMCA. She enjoyed swimming, sewing, looking after grandchildren and traveling.

She was preceded in death by her parents; a sister, Regina McWilliams and two brothers, Robert and Thomas Hoatson.

Survivors include her husband, William of McCook; children, Monica and Mark Wacker of McCook, Barbara Schenck of Fort Collins, Colo., Karen and Dennis Hiatt of McCook, Joe and Leah Schenck of Papillion and Elaine and Jeff Polly of McCook; nine grandchildren, Andrea, Brandon, Brooke, Marie, Amber, Kirstie, Logan, Julia and Tim; eight great-grandchildren, Alec, Larson, Marcus, Dominic, Graci, Tesa, Halle and Ella; and a sister, Margaret and husband, Ted Long of North Platte.

Memorials are being accepted in her name.

Visitation will be Tuesday and Wednesday. 9 a.m. -- 8 p.m., at Carpenter Breland Funeral Home in McCook. Friends and family may also go on-line at www.carpenterbreland.com to leave condolences.

Rosary will be Wednesday, 7 p.m., at the Carpenter Breland Chapel in McCook.

Mass of Christian Burial will be Thursday, 10:30 a.m., at St. Patrick's Catholic Church with Father Gary Brethour officiating. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery.
