Miss Nebraska ready for pageant

Miss Nebraska Brittany Jeffers is in Las Vegas preparing for the upcoming Miss America pageant.

The Ogallala native is the daughter of Lisa and Scott Jeffers of Ogallala. Scott commutes to McCook where he is an agent for Shelter Insurance.

Brittany competed as "Miss Omaha" and performed a dance as her talent. Her platform is, "Self Esteem: Promoting A Generation of Change."

She is a reporter for the ABC affiliate, KLKN-TV, in Lincoln, having graduated from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln in May 2008 with a degree in broadcast journalism.

Brittany has two brothers, Christopher, who is a sophomore this fall at UNL, and John, who is a sophomore at Ogallala High School.

Mario Lopez will host the Miss America Pageant, at 7 p.m. Saturday on the TLC network. Clinton Kelly, co-host of TLC's hit series "What

Not to Wear", will host a one-hour special entitled Miss America: Behind the

Curtain, Friday at 9 p.m.
