McCook swim results from Lincoln High Invite

LINCOLN -- McCook High School's swimming and diving team had several strong performances last weekend at the Lincoln High Invitational.

The diving competition was held Friday, Jan. 15, with the swimming events contested Saturday, Jan. 16.

The Bison girls recorded several secondary state qualifying times, led by Whitney Korgan and Jayde Aufrecht.

Korgan, headed to the University of Nebraska-Omaha next fall on a swimming scholarship, finished second in the 100-yard butterfly with a time of 1 minute, 6.13 seconds. Whitney was just over a second behind first-place Haylee McKelvey of Kearney's winning time of 1:04.82.

Aufrecht recorded a pair of secondary state qualifying times. Jayde placed third in the 50 freestyle with a time of 27:15 seconds. She was fifth in the 100 freestyle at 1:00.35.

The McCook girls also registered secondary state qualifying marks in a pair of relay races.

The Bison 200 freestyle relay team of Aufrecht, Katie Latta, Sydnie Stamm and Korgan swam second with a time of 1:48.04, behind Kearney's winning mark of 1:46.06. The McCook 400 freestyle quartet of Aufrecht, Madeline Shaddock, Latta and Korgan placed third at 4:02.02, trailing first-place Lincoln Northeast (3:54.90) and runner-up Grand Island (3:57.47).

Josh Stevens led the McCook boys with his third-place effort in the one-meter diving. Stevens scored 266.90 points. Teammate Austin Molczyk placed seventh with 227.50 points.

In girls one-meter diving, Michelle Tinglum placed ninth with 204.55 points.

Two Bison girls placed in the 200 individual medley. Madeline Shaddock was sixth in 2:36.02, and Sydnie Stamm 12th in 2:48.44.

The Bison boys placed eighth in the 200 freestyle relay. The quartet of Lucas Jumps, Josh Detty, Luke Mabile and Michael Sides was timed in 2:01.88.

Sides also placed 12th in the boys 100 freestyle in 1:05.07.

Katie Latta placed in two individual events for the McCook girls. Latta was 11th in the 200 freestyle at 2:24.77, and 12th in the 100 breast stroke at 1:25.55.

Jordan May finished 11th in the girls 100 backstroke at 1:17.67. Sydnie Stamm was 12th in the 100 free at 1:03.06.

McKenzie Schmitz just missed placing in the girls 50 free. Schmitz finished 13th with her time of 29.43 seconds.

McCook finished seventh in the girls team standings. The Bison girls scored 105 points, with Fremont and Lincoln High tied for fifth with 111 points each. Lincoln Northeast won the girls division with 286 points.

The McCook boys finished tenth with 30 points, just behind Omaha Northwest, ninth with 34 points. Grand Island's boys won the team title with 248 points.

Scottsbluff Invitational

The McCook swimming and diving teams are scheduled to compete in the Scottsbluff Invitational next weekend. Diving competition will be held Friday, Jan. 22, starting at 4 p.m. Swimming events will commence Saturday, Jan.23, at 11 a.m.
