OBERLIN -- Elton R. O'Hare, 85, died Wednesday (Jan. 6, 2010), at the Cedar Living Center in Oberlin.
He was born Aug. 22, 1924, in Norcatur to Ernest O'Hare and Mary Yingling. He grew up on a farm in Lyle, Kan., attended College Hill in Decatur County, Kan., and served in the U.S. Army during World War II.
On May 29, 1943, he married Mildred May McCashland in Norton. He resided on farms in Decatur County before moving to Oberlin in 1969. He farmed, and was employed by Oberlin Milling Company, Cabinetland and the railroad.
He was a member of Lyle Methodist Church.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Mildred McCashland; his parents, Ernest and Mary O'Hare; one daughter, Joleen O'Hare; and siblings, Ralph O'Hare and Fern Anderson.
Survivors include three sons, Rodney O'Hare and wife, Janice of Norcatur, Roger O'Hare and wife, Connie of Goodland and Ronald O'Hare of Denver, Colo.; three daughters, Mary Morse and husband, Jack of Beaver City, Devra Beyers and husband, Kurt of Hays and Cynthia Hattrup and husband, Stephen of Centennial, Colo.; 14 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.
Memorial services are Saturday, 10 a.m., at Pauls Funeral Home in Oberlin with Mr. Kurt Beyers and the Rev. Larry Danforth officiating. Interment will follow at Norcatur Cemetery.
Visitation is Friday, 8 a.m. - 8 p.m. (family will receive friends from 7 p.m. - 8 p.m.) and Saturday, 8 a.m. until service time.
Memorials may be given to Norcatur Avenue of Flags.
