Wind-blown snow
Wednesday, January 6, 2010
A shopper, who said the horizontal snow and gusty winds don't bother her for a short, quick walk, waits in near-blizzard conditions for traffic at Norris and B in McCook at mid-morning today. Forecasters call for worsening weather, and the National Weather Service in Goodland has issued a wind chill warning through late Thursday afternoon. The advisory means that the arctic storm system slicing through the Golden Plains will create wind chill readings of -15 to -25 degrees. In conditions like this, frost bite can occur in less than 30 minutes and hypothermia may occur if warm clothing in layers, coats, hats and mittens are not worn when venturing outside.
