Marjorie R. Miles of McCook, formally of Stratton, Neb., passed away Dec. 30, 2009, at McCook Community Hospital in McCook, at the age of 90 years, 11 months and 18 days.

She was born Jan. 12, 1919, to Albert and Zelma (Harding) Latta at Stamford, Neb. Marjorie married Eroll R. Miles on June 1, 1941 in Reno, Nev.

After acquiring her 2-year provisionary teaching certificate, Marjorie began her teaching career in country schools. She later taught at Eden grade school where her son Dick was one of her 7th and also her 8th grade students. Marjorie then taught in the Stratton Public School where her daughter Linda was her 6th grade student. She taught at Stratton for over 40 years. Marjorie earned both her Bachelor of Arts and her Master's Degrees from what was then the Kearney State Teachers' College at Kearney, Neb. After her retirement, Marjorie continued to teach English part-time at McCook Junior College. She was also a part-time real estate agent where she enjoyed meeting many different people.

In addition to her part-time jobs, Marjorie was a lifetime member of NSEA, retired a member of the Church of Christ in Stratton, a former member of the Stratton American Legion Auxiliary, Delta Kappa Gamma honorary Education Sorority and the VFW Auxiliary in Stratton. Her hobbies included: reading, crossword puzzles and spending time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren. Marjorie was a volunteer at the Blood Bank in McCook.

Marjorie was preceded in death by her husband, Eroll; parents, Albert and Zelma Latta; brothers, Bert, Bill and Paul; sisters, Donna, Dorothy, and Betty; brother-in-law, Bud Grosse (Donna) also preceded Marjorie in death.

Survivors include son, Dick and Ann Miles of McCool Junction; daughter, Linda and Ron Gerdes of Spring, Texas; son, Phil Miles and Lisa of McCook; and former daughter-in-law, Kareon Miles of Lincoln. Grandchildren include, Heather (Miles) and Todd Teut; and great-grandchildren, Hadley and Bryce of Lincoln. Hilary (Miles) and Clay Kuchera and great-grandchildren, Jud, Josie and Tate of Rose. Craig Gerdes of Spring, Texas, Cari (Gerdes) and Allan Mielsch and great-step-granddaughter, Amanda of Spring, Texas, and Noah Peters of McCook. Also surviving are Marjorie's sisters-in-law, Radonda and husband Bert, Arda and husband Bill, Michelle and husband Paul, and brother-in-law, Wayne Baker and wife Dorothy. In addition, Marjorie leaves many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Memorial services will be Tuesday, 10:30 a.m, at the Church of Christ, in Stratton, with Randy Hayes officiating. Due to cremation, there will be no viewing. Internment will follow the services at Rose Hill Cemetery near Stratton with Forch Funeral Chapel in charge of arrangements.
