Michael John Foley, 62, died Friday (Jan. 1, 2010), at McCook Community Hospital.

He was born Nov. 26, 1947, in McCook, the son of the late John and Ruth (Cotton) Foley. Mike grew up in McCook and graduated from McCook High School in 1965.

On Dec. 11, 1967, Mike entered the United States Army serving during the Vietnam War and served two and a half years in Vietnam. Following his honorable discharge on Oct. 14, 1970, Mike returned to McCook where he spent his life as an over-the-road truck driver for Don Hagan Trucking.

On Aug. 10, 1978, Mike married Marie (Schmidt) Farr in McCook. Mike enjoyed hunting and fishing and was an accomplished pool player.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two half brothers, Harold and Donnie Mackey; and one niece, Kimberly Shaffer.

Mike is survived by his wife, Marie Foley; two sons, John Foley and fiancee, Anita Propes of McCook, and Troy Farr of Kearney; three sisters, Nadine Gurriere, Katherine Peters and husband, Kenny of Calif., and Karen Shaffer and husband, Ronnie of Colo.; four grandchildren, Brighton Walkington - Foley, Andreau, Alex, and Abby Farr; and many nephews, nieces, relatives and friends.

Funeral services will be Tuesday, 10:30 a.m., at Herrmann Memorial Chapel in McCook with the Rev. Lance Clay officiating. Interment with military honors will be at Fort McPherson National Cemetery in Maxwell.

Memorials may be given in his name and visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. at Herrmann Funeral Home.
