OBERLIN -- Helen M. Derby, 90, died Saturday (Dec. 26, 2009) at the Decatur County Good Samaritan Center in Oberlin, Kan.
She was born Nov. 22, 1919, in Decatur County to Tandy W. Nelson and Kyttee K. Bremer. She grew up in Decatur County and attended country schools. She graduated from Dresden High School and Fort Hays Teacher College.
On April 24, 1943, she married Harold H. Derby in Oberlin. She lived on a farm northwest of Dresden and was a school teacher.
She was a member of the Dresden United Methodist Church.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Tandy and Kyttee Nelson; her husband, Harold; her son, Donald; and her sister, Lois Welter.
Survivors include her daughter, Betty Jean and husband, Elmer Baus of Pratt, and two grandchildren.
Memorial services will be Tuesday, 10:30 a.m., at Dresden United Methodist Church, in Dreseden, Kan. Interment to follow at Dresden Cemetery.
Visitation is today, 1 p.m. - 8 p.m., at Pauls Funeral Home in Oberlin, and Tuesday, 8 a.m. until service time, at the church.
