Emergency personnel from Culbertson, McCook, Red Willow Western and the Red Willow County Sheriff's Department carry Bruce Shipshock of McCook from his pickup to an awaiting ambulance about 12:30 p.m., Wednesday. Shipshock and his wife, Theresa, "Terri," were injured and taken to Community Hospital of McCook by the McCook ambulance and a Culbertson ambulance -- whose crew members witnessed the accident, according to Chief Deputy Alan Kotschwar. The accident happened four miles west of McCook on Highway 6&34 when the Shipshock vehicle, attempting to pass an ambulance, went out of control on the icy and snow-covered road and entered the north ditch, Kotschwar said. The pickup rolled and came to rest on its passenger side in a cornfield. Red Willow Western Rural Fire Department firefighters, including Calvin Peck, left, and chief Bill Elliott, played "Santa Claus" and helped Kotschwar gather up Christmas gifts thrown from the Shipshock pickup into the cornfield. A spokesman for Community Hospital said this morning that Terri Shipshock was held for observation and released and that Bruce Shipshock was treated and released.
