Tim Billington of Frenchman Valley Farmers Co-Op lifts the end gate on a farm truck dumping corn at a location in the 200 block of East A in McCook Monday morning. Doug Brown, manager of Frenchman Valley's grain division, said they're using locations on East A, near the office on East Third and on South Street to pile corn that measures 17 percent moisture or less brought in by growers or dried down at the elevator. Brown said, "It's been a huge harvest ... a huge harvest," citing improved yields and more acres planted. He also said that because Frenchman Valley has the only dryers in the area, they're pulling corn from a wider area. He reports 2.4 million bushels of corn in McCook, 1.4 million bushels at the Perry Elevator and 2.2 million bushels at two elevators in Culbertson and at Beverly. Brown said harvest is 90 percent complete. "It's at least on the downhill slide," he said, with a watchful eye on a weather forecast predicting more snow and ice.
