Mar 26., 1948 - Dec. 3, 2009
ELWOOD -- Pansy Marie Schwenninger, 78, died Thursday, (Dec. 3, 2009), at the Tri-County Hospital in Lexington.
She was born March 26, 1931, at Smithfield to Lee and Sylvia Mills. She graduated from Eustis High School.
On Feb. 14, 1948, she married Ivan W. Schwenninger in Kearney. They moved to the Schwenninger farm west of Elwood and lived there together until Ivan's death in 1987. She continued to live on the farm until her move to Elwood in 1998. She was very proud of the Nebraska Pioneer Farm Award that the farm received for 100 years of continuous family ownership in 2006.
During the years of raising her family, she was busy assisting her husband with the farm, teaching her daughters how to sew for 4-H, and attending her son's athletic events. Pansy enjoyed baking, quilting, and gardening, and in recent years, she became an avid collector of anything decorated with pansies. She was a member of Alexis Club, Federated Women's Club of Kearney, Plum Creek Garden Club, LWML and Thrivent. As quilt coordinator at the Lutheran Church, she created many quilts for missions with other ladies of Our Redeemer Lutheran Church.
In addition to her husband, Ivan, she was preceded in death by her parents Lee and Sylvia Mills, her brother Donald Mills, and her sister Shirley Houser.
Survivors include her three children, Geraldine (Allen) Steinbrink of Arapahoe, Sherle Schwenninger of New York City, Sharlette Schwenninger of Elwood; two grandsons, Nathaniel (Cortney) Steinbrink of DeQuoin, Ill., and Jonathan Steinbrink of Sahuarita, Ariz.; brothers Everald (Pat) Mills, of Arlington, Wash., and Dwayne (Grace) Mills of Port Hueneme, Calif.; sisters, Beverly (Kenneth) Johnson of Lincoln, Neb., and Georgetta (Jack ) Harris of Gordon, Neb.; sister-in-law Grace (Don) Mills of Lincoln, Neb.; nieces, nephews, other relatives; and many friends, young and old.
