And the bid is $300,000,000 to Louisiana. Yes that is what Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid and his Democrat Majority promised, in pork, in exchange for Senator Mary Landrieu voting "YES" for cloture. The YES vote will allow Sen. Reid to bring forth his Health Care Bill for further debate, and adoption, sometime next week, or next month or next year. Whatever it takes to bring Socialized Medicine to the United States is the obvious goal.
I'm wondering what our favorite Senator, and therefore Nebraska, was promised for his "YES" vote. The final tally was 60 to 39 so Sen. Nelson's vote was crucial and could have stopped the travesty of a bill hell-bent toward Socialized Medicine. The Reid version of ObamaCare would have been still-born. Surely Sen. Ben didn't let his vote go for less than $300 million. I researched his Web site, his Sunday appearance on ABC's "This Week" and other places online but evidently nobody is talking.
Let's see, $300 mil to our state could do a lot of good. Buying off Kansas' claim for our irrigation water would be a good start. Tax relief to Nebraska businesses who, after all provide the vast majority of jobs would be helpful. I am sure that our state politicos could find places to spend "free" money sent our way. Surely it is "free" when it is tax money collected in all the 50 states and funneled here for our homegrown politicians to spend. Paying federal income tax is a taxpayer's option, not mandatory if one doesn't like how it is spent, is it not?
Who can we run to replace Ben Nelson for senator? I am thinking of a no-nonsense someone like Virginia Smith who did Nebraska proud in the U.S. House from 1975-1991. It is time to remove our senator who appears more interested in brokering power in the Democrat Party than voting the desires of his Nebraska values conservative constituents. And please, no more lawyers!
Ah, this is the week of my favorite holiday, Thanksgiving. Like many of our national holidays Thanksgiving has its roots in the Judeo/Christian tradition, specifically the Festival of Booths. It is a time to pause and reflect upon the good things that come to our lives.
I am thankful for being born into the tradition of personal liberty that is the United States. We have the best system of government ever conceived by mankind. Sure our democratic republic has its foibles and flaws but it is still much better than anything ever created before. We have the best medical system the world has ever seen. Food is plentiful and affordable for all. Energy, both electrical and petroleum based, is reliable and relatively cheap. Are all things perfect in every way? Of course not, but let us not ruin what we have not earned.
I am thankful for a lifetime spent in the avocation of flight. Incidentally, I was airborne on an instrument flight plan last Wednesday when the FAA's computer system went down. Not a problem for my flight, as the controllers on the ground conducted all flights business as usual. In fact, I was not even aware of a problem until after flying an instrument approach and landing as planned in Iowa. I find it a great privilege to work with our air traffic controllers as they are at all times true professionals.
I am thankful for the wonderful people in this area who contributed to making Ann's Adopt-a-Chaplain Christmas project a great success. She and her helpful elves mailed 90 flat-rate boxes to Iraq last Friday. Not bad for an initial dream goal of 20. We feel truly blessed to live in a wonderful giving community.
Roast turkey, cornbread dressing, mashed potatoes and corn with giblet gravy, green bean casserole made with mushroom soup and French fried onion rings, candied sweet potatoes, cranberry sauce and cranberry Jell-O salad, biscuits (as mom called them) with real butter, pickles and olives, green and black, on the relish tray, and pumpkin pie topped with real whipped cream to finish it off; ah it can't be improved on! And note, the turkey, cranberries, corn, and pumpkin are all truly American in origin. Life doesn't get much better, unless maybe you add the Danish giblet fruit compote that I ate in Greenland, or maybe oyster and chestnuts in the dressing or maybe pecan or cherry pie in addition to the pumpkin. We are truly blessed!
That is the way I saw it.

[Another Man with medicare complaining about Socialized Medicine. Classic Dick.

So its not ok for veterans to recieve thier wonderful medicare benefit but its ok for foreign nationals to get full health coverage? Please explain.
'Classic Dick' earned his Medicare wings, my friend, Meshedup. Dick, as myself are recipients of the only 'perfect' Socialized medicine program going: The many paying for the few to have excellent medical coverage.
Once that 'perfect' system is spread out to all citizens, especially when extended to the non-citizen, illegal types, the 'perfect' Socialized system implodes, for lack of 'majority' support.
I never felt the need to claim what I have, which hasn't already been taken away before, but I must state that anyone who can stand to serve, in the military for more than twenty years, might just have a claim on that 'perfect' system of medical care, as long as the citizenry is willing to fund it as recompence for their Freedom.
Everyone has the same right to free speech, and thought, so believe me when I say I do not begrudge anyone that right. So if you want to nag about a problem, nag about the way our Representatives represent the citizens of this country, whom they work for.
We, the People, have the capacity to turn this fiasco around, and regain our independence from 'Big Brother,' even though there be great suffering, and pain required to minimize the scaring of our way of life, leadership, and pride. That must be done, however, through cooperation, and all pulling the same direction, if possible.
The government, of the people, by the people, and for the people, is in a coma, and going deeper unto the probable death of a nation (USA), if nothing is done. The only way to remove the insanity from our leadership is to remove the leadership. So it takes six years to remove the people, corrupted by the present insanity of spend spend spend, and hope for positive results type system. We might, just might, survive the pain, and justify the sacrifice. If we don't start the process immediately, USA is Dead, and will not arrive at the station.
Whoa, listen to me. I'm making noises as if I know what I am talking about. I'm not an expert, folks, but know enough to see disaster flying at my windshield, with only nano-seconds to respond, or die. So, take your pick, folks, do something, even if it may be wrong, or do nothing and for sure be doing nothing right.
Our leadership/representatives try to do right by the people, but, I fear, even they have been contaminated by the Pork, and Perks associated with Power, and should be replaced.
We all must sacrifice. Let us begin by refusing to purchase anything (including, and especially oil) supplied or manufactured outside our National boundaries, plus return our nation to the 'legals.' We will suffer, but see progress unto recovery, I pray. Up to us, our leadership only desires 'control' over us.
Pray, Ponder, The politicians are coming, the politicians are coming. one if by debt, and two if by Socialization. To Arms, To Arms. Our Nation is in Danger. Consider the alarm sounded.
In Messiah, His Blessing and Protection. Arley Steinhour
You "earn" medicare by living to be 65? Illegals will be allowed on this plan?
Who pays for the illegals medical now? They can't be denied emergency care.
Arley when you take out your rhetoric and misinformation you have nothing left.
This heath insurance reform bill is not the perfect answer. Not even close but all the talk about bankrupting this Country will happen if we do nothing.
You can believe that we are the only great nation that can't provide coverage for it's people. I just don't agree.
Not to change the subject, but ..... I just watched a video of the beautiful Ann describing the box shipments for the troops. Many Kudos to her and her helpers -- and to you for having the wit and wisdom to marry such a lovely lady. Blessings on everyone. And a Happy Thanks Giving.
My memory of Virgina Smith is vague, not one that I would hold out to emulate. This health care bill is wrong in so many ways.
