WHEATRIDGE, Colo. -- B. Joan Parrish, 83, formerly of Beaver City, died Wednesday (Nov. 18, 2009), at Collier Hospice Lutheran Medical Center in Wheatridge, Colo.
She was born Sept. 11, 1926, in Furnas County, to John Russell and Vivan (Livingston) Wentling. She attended Beaver City schools and graduated from Beaver City High School with the Class of 1944. She worked in Beaver City with her dad and helped him establish a John Deere business. She then taught at District 2 until leaving to attend Nebraska Wesleyan University at Lincoln for two years.
On Oct. 1, 1950, she married Dean Parrish of Grant. The couple moved to Denver, Colo., where she worked for Gates Rubber Co., and at Denver Public Schools. She taught in the Littleton Elementary schools for one year, returning to college, graduating from the University of Colorado in 1970 with a Bachelor of Science degree in education.
She was a member of Brentwood United Methodist Church in Denver and was active with United Methodist Women and was president and program chairman for Church Women United for many years.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
Survivors include her husband, Dean of Wheatridge; and a brother, Wendell and wife, Goldie Wentling of Hendley.
Funeral services will be 1:30 p.m., Wednesday, at the First United Methodist Church in Beaver City with the Rev. Brian McGee officiating. Burial will follow at Mount Hope Cemetery in Beaver City.
Visitation is Tuesday, 10 a.m.-8 p.m., at Wenburg Funeral Home in Beaver City.
