The wintry weather that has smothered the western part of Nebraska in recent days will have an effect on athletic events in the area this weekend.
McCook was scheduled to travel to Ogallala Friday night for a first-round game in the Nebraska Class B state high school football playoffs. That game has been postponed due to hazardous weather conditions.
The Bison and Indians will try again tomorrow. The playoff contest has been postponed until Saturday, Oct. 31, with kickoff set for 3 p.m. CDT.
Many roads in the area, including Interstate 80 west of North Platte, and Highway 83 between McCook and North Platte, were closed Friday morning. McCook and Ogallala officials decided to postpone the game one day. Reports said the Ogallala area was blanketed with up to a foot of snow.
Saturday's weather forecast is more favorable. The weather.com forecast Saturday at Ogallala is calling for partly cloudy skies with high temperatures in the low 50s.
The two teams will play Saturday for the second time in eight days. Ogallala beat the Bison, 13-7 in overtime, in the regular-season finale for both teams last Friday night at Weiland Field in McCook.
