FORT COLLINS, Colo. -- James David Rasmussen, pastor of Trinity Lutheran church, passed away of a heart attack suddenly and unexpectedly on Oct. 16, 2009. He was born Jan. 6, 1945, and was adopted and raised by David and Myrtle Rasmussen in Oconomowoc, Wis.
Jim graduated from Luther College in Decorah, Iowa in May 1967. In August of that year, Jim married Terry Thiele, and attended seminary in Dubuque, Iowa. He graduated with a Master's Degree in Divinity from Wartburg Theological Seminary in May 1971.
Jim served as an ELCA Lutheran pastor for more than 38 years: serving congregations in Goodland, Kan.; McCook, Neb.; Littleton, Colo.; Pewaukee, Wis., and Fort Collins, Colo. He was a Pastor at Trinity since August 1999. Jim also served on the institutional Review Board at Poudre Valley Hospital.
Jim is survivied by his wife of 42 years, Terry, his six children, Jennifer and Richard Schmalz of Cincinnati, Ohio; Jeremy and Keri Rasmussen of Loveland, Colo.; and Jaimie and Ben Rudolph of Littleton, Colo; and five grandchildren, RJ Schmalz, Andie Rasmussen, Ava Schmalz, Siri Rasmussen, and Own Schmalz.
Jim will be remembered for his love of Jesus, his family and the church. His family and friends will remember him for his affinity for Coco-cola, Harry Potter, MASH, all things tennis, and M & M's. Jim will be greatly missed for his sense of humor, his thoughtfulness, his generous nature, and tender heartedness.
Memorial services were Oct. 22, 2009 at Trinity Lutheran Church.
