ARAPAHOE -- Ruth Ann Petitjean, 102, died Monday (Oct. 19, 2009) at C.A. Mues Good Samaritan Center in Arapahoe.

She was born Nov. 6, 1906, at Orleans to Simeon J. and Ida E. (Cordell) Tubridy. She attended District 4 Country School and Orleans High School. In 1932, she travel to Denver, Colo., to live with her sister. While there she worked in the millinery department of the May D & F department store. She returned home in 1925 due to illness and to help work on the family farm.

On Nov. 26, 1926, she married Charles Joseph Petitjean.They made their home at Stamford until 1959, when they moved to St. Francis to be near her son. In 1933, she moved to Sunshine Village in Arapahoe and later to C.A. Mues Good Samaritan Center in Arapahoe.

She served as head cook for the Stamford school from the inception of the hot-lunch program until moving to St. Francis. While at St. Francis she worked for the Good Samaritan Home as head cook until her retirement.

She was baptized into the Christian faith and was a lifelong member of the Christian Church of Stamford. She was active in the Ladies Missionary Group of the church and attended adult Sunday school.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Charles; daughter, Dorothy Gehrig; son, Keith Petitjean; brothers, George, John and Forrest Tubridy; sister, Katherine Tubridy; and grandson, Bobby Gehrig.

Survivors include her sons, Chuck Petitjean of St. Francis; Gayle and wife, Wilma Woodruff of Kearney; daughter, Cheryl and husband, Reuben Ahrens of Arapahoe; 20 grandchildren; 36 great-grandchildren; 27 great-great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be Friday, 1 p.m., at First United Methodist Church in Arapahoe with the Rev. Michael Flury officiating. Interment will be in the Stamford Cemetery.

Viewing and visitation will be Thursday from 9 a.m. - 8 p.m., at Wenburg Funeral Home in Arapahoe and prior to services at the church on Friday. Condolences or personal reflections may be left at www.wenburgfuneralhome.com.
