Colleen Sue Grant, died Friday, Oct. 9, 2009, at her home in McCook at the age of 62.

She was born Jan. 3, 1947, in McCook, the daughter of the late Claude E. and Opal I. (Barnes) Grant. Colleen attended and graduated from McCook High School in 1965. In 1966, Colleen married Ronald L. Guthrie with whom she had three children, Stephen, Greg and Lisa. While raising her children, Colleen lived in Kearney, Aurora, Iowa City, Iowa and Bloomington, Ind. Colleen was employed as a telephone operator, real estate agent and worked in the school system.

Colleen enjoyed and lived life to the fullest every day. She loved and participated in her community through Heritage Days, McCook City Council since 2006, McCook Housing Board, the theater, the toy chest and McCook Economic Development Corporation.

She spoke often of her love for the community and the activities and how she benefited far more than she contributed. Colleen had a smile for everyone and never met a stranger, accepting and loving everyone as they were. Colleen loved her family and friends and was a second mom to many.

Preceding her in death her her parents, Claude E. and Opal I. Grant and her aunt and uncle, Russel Wayne and Kathryn Barnes.

Colleen is survived by her children, Stephen Guthrie and wife, Linda of Tipton, Ind., son, Greg and wife, Sylvia Guthrie of Mishawaka, Ind., and daughter, Lisa and husband, Jay Warren of Shorewood, Ill.; grandchildren, Michael and Kayla Guthrie, Johanna and Zach Treadway; great-grandchildren, Valerie Treadway, Levi Lowers and Alyssa Treadway; as well as many very special close friends.

Funeral services will be 2 p.m., Wednesday, Oct. 14, 2009, at Memorial United Methodist Church in McCook with the Rev. Lance Clay officiating. Interment will be in Memorial Park Cemetery in McCook.

Memorials may be given in her name and visitation will be from 9 a.m. - 9 p.m., at Herrmann Funeral Home in McCook.
