House fire

Firefighters hose down a smoldering couch while one young woman provides comfort to another outside a house at 1107 E. Third Friday afternoon. The McCook City and Volunteer Fire Department responded to a structure fire at approximately 3:31 p.m. Upon arrival, firefighters found smoke coming from residence. Firefighters found a fire on a living room couch. The fire was extinguished within 5 minutes of arrival, but there was extensive smoke damage throughout the house and flame damage limited to living room. Damage was estimated at $15,000 for the contents and $20,000 to the structure. The home is owned by Albert Bible of Holdrege and the resident of the home is Michelle Hall. The fire department responded with one engine and 13 firefighters, and remained on scene for about four hours while the State Fire Marshal and McCook Fire investigated. The cause of the fire remains undetermined.
