NORTH PLATTE -- McCook High School's boys tennis team got blown away at North Platte Thursday.

Heavy winds buffeted the players during the meet, and the Bison dropped a pair of varsity meet against the host Bulldogs and Hershey. McCook lost to Hershey 6-3, and North Platte 7-2.

McCook head Matt Wiemers used his junior varsity players to fill the varsity roster against Hershey to allow those younger players an opportunity to play extra matches.

"Playing through winds in excess of 45 miles per hour, we were able to get on the court and play some matches," Wiemers said. "The team came up a couple matches short, but the kids got to play and log some match play experience. I was pleased with the play of the team as a whole, they all battled hard and did some good things on the court."

McCook winners against Hershey included Chris Hoffman in No. 5 singles, Josh Escher in No. 6 singles, and the No. 2 doubles team of Josh Detty and Lucas Post.

Connor Larson in No. 1 singles, and the No. 1 doubles team of Larson and Nate Crick were the only winners for the Bison against North Platte.

The McCook junior varsity won seven of 11 doubles matches against the Bulldogs Thursday.

McCook competes in the Greater Nebraska Athletic Conference meet at Hastings Saturday starting at 10 a.m.
