ARAPAHOE -- Gilbert H. "Gib" Leising, 93, died Monday (Sept. 28, 2009) at C.A. Mues Good Samaritan Center in Arapahoe.
He was born March 18, 1916, at Arapahoe to Paul H. and Louise (Bockerman) Leising. He graduated from Arapahoe High School in 1934. While in high school he worked for the Equity Store in Arapahoe and after school he worked on the family farm. During a dry year of farming in Arapahoe, he worked on a farm in Minnesota.
On April 12, 1942, he married Agnes B. Schutz at Salem Lutheran Church in Elwood. They made their home on the Leising farmstead south of Arapahoe. In 1982, they moved into Arapahoe.
He was a member of the Trinity Lutheran Church of Arapahoe and served as an elder and on many other church committees. He served on the Furnas County Extension Board, Arapahoe Cemetery Board and a 4-H leader.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Paul, Edward and Arthur Leising; sisters-in-law, Magdalene, Lillie and Clara Belle Leising; daughter-in-law, Linda Leising; and brother-in-law, Bernard Schutz.
Survivors include his wife, Agnes Leising of Arapahoe; sons, Jerome and wife, Vesta Leising of Minneapolis, Minn., James Leising of St. Paul, Minn., and Tom and wife, Linda Leising of Arapahoe; daughters, Carolyn and husband, Larry tenBensel of Arapahoe and Barbara and husband, Marvin Luke of Oxford; 12 grandchildren; and 17 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be Saturday, 10:30 a.m., at Trinity Lutheran Church in Arapahoe with the Vicar James Moshier officiating. Interment will be in the Arapahoe Cemetery.
Viewing and visitation will be today until 8 p.m., and Friday from 9 a.m. - 8 p.m., at Wenburg Funeral Home in Arapahoe and prior to services at the church on Saturday.
