McCook beats Chase County to take 3rd at Lexington

LEXINGTON -- McCook High School's volleyball team won 2 of three matches at the Lexington Invitational Tournament Saturday, finishing in 3rd place at the competition.

"Overall, we were pleased to come out of the tournament 2-1 on the day," said head volleyball coach Krystal Weber. "It was a disappointing loss to Lexington in the semifinals. We fought off match point 2 or 3 times, then had opportunities for set point 3 times."

Weber added, "We just made some poor choices when the pressure was on. We can learn from those choices and make better decisions next time we are in that situation."

The coach said of the girls' final match of the tournament, "We were able to come back against Chase County in the 3rd place match for the win. We were very sluggish in set one and did not pass the ball well."

Weber credited the Longhorns for their play. "Chase County picks up a lot of balls defensively," she said, "and we were getting frustrated when we were not able to terminate the ball offensively."

The coach turned her attention to the Bison volleyball squad's next challenges. "We definitely have some things to focus on this week, heading into our big match-ups with District opponents GINW and Holdrege Thursday night," Weber said. "But to come out of Week 1 with a 3-1 record will hopefully give the kids some confidence heading into those matches.
