BEAVER CITY -- Vona Mae Hardenbrook, 86, of Beaver City died Saturday (Sept. 5, 2009) at Harlan County Hospital in Alma.

She was born Nov. 26, 1922, at Beaver City to Clem and Adie J. (Thompson) Harman. She was raised in Arapahoe.

She married Bud Dale Hardenbrook on Sept. 24, 1937 at Hill City, Kan. They made their home at rural Beaver City where they lived for eight years and then moved into Beaver City. Her husband preceded her in death on March 21, 1976.

She moved to Alma and returned to Beaver City in the early 1990s. She worked at Kelly's Supermarket, Beaver City Manor, Beaver City Locker and Swanson's of Oxford. She worked at the Alma Senior Center until retiring in 1993. Through the years she made quilts and donated many of them to the Harlan County Hospital Auxiliary. In May of 2006, she moved into the Beaver City Assisted Living and later the Beaver City Manor.

She was a member and officer of the VFW Auxiliary and member of the former Grace Bethren Church now Faith Community Church, both of Beaver City.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Bud; brothers, Raymond, Eli and Perry Harman; sisters, Ethel, Jessie, Marie, Ruphenia and Millie; and two infant siblings.

Survivors include her sons, Larry and wife, Karen Hardenbrook of Beaver City, Ray and wife, Toni Hardenbrook of Axtell, Butch and wife, Sue Hardenbrook of Beaver City and Johnny and wife, Karen Marie Hardenbrook of Walthill; daughters, Dotty and husband, Tom Biros of Beaver City and Ruth and husband, Matt Chamberland of Uxbridge, Mass.; brother-in-law, Bob and wife, Erma Hardenbrook of Thornton, Colo.; sister-in-law, Jeanie Harman of Riverside, Calif.; 18 grandchildren; and 30 great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were today at Faith Community Church in Beaver City with the Rev. Dwain Fowler officiating. Burial was at Mount Hope Cemetery at Beaver City.
