Nellie N. Ervin, died Tuesday, Sept. 1, 2009, at Wedgewood Care Center in Grand Island at the age of 99.
She was born Jan. 9, 1910, in Grant County, the daughter of the late Selbi "Dude" and Cora (Shoemaker) Roth. Nellie grew up in Hayes County and graduated from the University of Nebraska School of Agriculture in Curtis in 1930. For three years she taught rural school.
On May 1, 1933, Nellie married Ernest Eugene Ervin at North Platte. Nellie and Ernest farmed and raised Hereford cattle on their farm north of McCook in Frontier County. They retired in 1986. She resided in McCook until moving to Grand Island in June of 1994.
She was a member of the Garden Prairie United Methodist Church and the United Methodist Women.
Nellie was preceded in death by her husband, Ernest on March 22, 1989; two grandchildren, Elizabeth Ervin and DeWayne Gleason; brothers, Wray and Harry Roth; and sister, Dorothy O'Neil.
Nellie is survived by one son, Eldon Ervin and wife, Dorothy of Grand Island; three daughters, Faye Gleason of Kent, Wash., Donna Uhrich of Oakley, Kan., and Karen Capp of Juneau, Alaska; 11 grandchildren, Edward, Andrew and Daniel Ervin, Don and Roy Gleason, Wade, Sheila, Rodney, Sondra and Donita Uhrich and Trenton Capp; 22 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; one brother, Don Roth and wife, DeLane of Gordon; and relatives and friends.
Funeral services will be 1:30 p.m., Saturday, Sept. 5, 2009; at Herrmann Memorial Chapel in McCook with Pastor Lance Clay officiating. Interment will be in Memorial Park Cemetery.
Memorials may be given in her name and visitation will be from 9 a.m. - 9 p.m., at Herrmann Funeral Home in McCook
