BARTLEY -- Athol M. Callan, 82, of Cambridge, died Tuesday (Aug. 25, 2009) at Cambridge Memorial Hospital.

She was born in Wheeler, Kan., on Nov. 24, 1926, to Ralph C. and May A.(Duncan) Black. She attended school in Wheeler and St. Francis.

On Aug. 28, 1945, she married Harlan "Bus" Hansen in Hoxie. He preceded her in death on Aug. 31, 1976. She later married Wayne "Bud" Callan on Jan. 2, 1991, and he preceded her in death on July 13, 2005.

She worked many years as a nurse's aide for the Minnick Hospital in Cambridge. She also worked at the Rocket Inn in Indianola for many years.

She was a member of the VFW Auxiliary of Beaver Valley and the Calvary Baptist Church in Cambridge.

She was preceded in death by her parents; both husbands; two grandsons, Lonnie and Larry Foster; granddaughter, Kristi Sayer; five brothers, Bertie, Carl, Marion, Harold and Junior; and six sisters Bertha, Margaret, Irene, Twila, Gladys and Pauline.

Survivors include her two sons, Ronney and wife, Kathlene Hansen of Bartley and Ivan and wife, Julie Hansen of Imperial; two daughters, Beverly and husband, Jim Foster of Lexington and Linda and husband, Howard Sayer of Cambridge; two step-sons, Roger and wife, Shirley Callan of Cozad and Rodney and wife, Barbara Callan of Colorado Springs, Colo.; one brother, Darrell and wife, Gloria Black of Idaho Springs, Colo.; one sister, Barbara and husband, Vern Palmbald of Wilsonville, Ore.; one sister-in-law, Bernice Black of Yuma, Colo.; nine grandchildren; two step-grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; two step-great grandchildren.

Funeral services were Saturday at Lockenour-Jones Mortuary in Cambridge with the Rev. Brian Perry officiating. Interment was in the Bartley Cemetery.

Memorials may be left in her name to the Cambridge Senior Center or the Cambridge Manor.

Lockenour-Jones Mortuary is in charge of arrangements.
