OBERLIN --Arlo Wurm, 75, died Saturday (Aug. 29, 2009) at Decatur County Hospital in Oberlin.
He was born Sept. 27, 1933, in Traer to John and Lydia (Unger) Wurm. He grew up on a farm near Traer and attended Decatur Community High School, graduating in 1952. He entered the U.S. Army.
On Dec. 27, 1961, he married Bonnie VanDeWege. They lived on the family farm southwest of Oberlin where he was a farmer and raised livestock.
He was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church.
He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Lydia Wurm; wife, Bonnie; infant sisters, Adeline and Carol; brother, Raymond; and brother-in-law, James McKay.
Survivors include his sons, Kevin and wife, Kayla Wurm of Dresden, Kan., Keane Wurm of Hays, Kan., Shane and wife, Christy Wurm of St. Francis and Stanton and wife, Rochelle Wurm of Lebo, Kan.; daughter, Shawna Lea and husband, Mike Karl of Brighton, Colo.; one brother-in-law, Harlan VanDeWege of Prairie View, Kan.; sister, Phyllis McKay of Jenks, Okla.; sisters-in-law, Mary Wurm of Loveland, Colo., and Neva and husband, Richard Epard of Colby, Kan.; and nine grandchildren.
Funeral services will be Wednesday, 10:30 a.m., at St. John's Lutheran Church in Oberlin with the Rev. Kevin Schnakenberg officiating. Interment will be in the Oberlin Cemetery.
Visitation will be Tuesday from 8 a.m. - 8 p.m., at Pauls Funeral Home in Oberlin and Wednesday from 8 a.m. until time of services at the church.
Memorials may be given to the church, Decatur County 4-H or Decatur County Youth Sports Program.
