OBERLIN -- George L. Brown, 82, died Friday (Aug. 21, 2009) at Hays Medical Center in Hays, Kan.
He was born Sept. 20, 1927, in Kansas City, Mo., to Louis and Lily (Rutschman) Brown. He grew up in the Kansas City area and graduated from Northeast High School in 1944.
He served in the U.S. Coast Guard. On March 30, 1957, he married Phyllis Landau. They lived in Phoenix, Ariz., Castle Rock, Colo., and Sun City West, Ariz.. He was employed as a production manager at Stanley Aviation.
He moved to Oberlin in 2000. On Aug. 25, 2001, he married Cecelia Kump.
He was a member of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Certified Member of APICS, Society of Logistical Engineers and Optimist Club.
He was preceded in death by his parents and first wife, Phyllis (Landau) Brown.
Survivors include his wife, Cecelia Brown of Oberlin; sons, Kurt Brown of Centennial, Colo., Eric Brown and wife, Peggy of Weston, Fla., and step-son, Ron Kump and wife, Judy of Wichita, Kan.; daughter, Paula Chapman and husband, Shannon of San Rafael, Calif.; brother, Phillip Brown and wife, Margaret of Lacy, Wash.; four grandchildren; two step-grandchildren; and five step-great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be Tuesday, 11 a.m., at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Oberlin with the Rev. Mark Berland officiating. Interment will be in the Oberlin Cemetery on Friday at 11 a.m.
Visitation will be today until 8 p.m., with a vigil service at 7 p.m., at Pauls Funeral Home in Oberlin.
Memorials may be given to the church or donor's choice.
