Area students to graduate from UNL

LINCOLN -- Approximately 780 students will receive degrees at University of Nebraska-Lincoln commencement exercises Aug. 14 and 15.

Barbara Couture, senior vice chancellor for academic affairs, will preside at the ceremonies at the Bob Devaney Sports Center, one for graduate and professional degree recipients Aug. 14 and one for baccalaureate degrees Aug. 15.

Mehrdad Negahban, associate professor of engineering mechanics at UNL, will address the Aug. 14 postgraduate ceremony. Helen Moore, Aaron Douglas professor and professor of sociology and women's studies at UNL, will address the Aug. 15 baccalaureate ceremony.

The graduates are from 40 states, Puerto Rico and 36 countries.

A list of graduates from the Gazette area follows. The list may include students who will receive degrees from the University of Nebraska at Omaha in UNO's criminal justice program offered on the UNL campus. Information includes the graduate's name, college, degree and any applicable honors. Honors include degrees with distinction, high distinction or highest distinction (cum laude, magna cum laude or summa cum laude for UNO degrees), University Honors Program and Raikes School Honors Program.

ARAPAHOE: Geraldine Kay Steinbrink, Graduate College, master of arts.

CAMBRIDGE: Kaitlin McKenzie Deaver, Arts and Sciences, bachelor of arts.

CURTIS: Kelvin Miles Kemp, Graduate College, master of professional accountancy.

HAYES CENTER: Brett Richard Brown, Agricultural Sciences and Natural Resources, B.S. in animal science.

IMPERIAL: Jason Edward Burke, Business Administration, B.S. in business administration with distinction.
