IMPERIAL -- Della Marie (Priest) Buczek, 75, died Tuesday (July 28, 2009) at Imperial Manor in Imperial.
She was born March 22, 1934, to William Eugene and Marie Berdnadine Priest, north of Wauneta in the same Kerchal sod house her mother was born in. She received her primary education at Wallace. In 1944, her family moved to Hamlet, where she completed the eighth grade. In later years, she purchased the Hamlet property as a keepsake of her childhood to share with her family.
She worked as a waitress in McCook and Imperial. On Nov. 7, 1935, she married Frank Joseph Buczek in Ogallala. In 1959, the family moved to Denver, Colo., where she worked as a nurse's aide at Saint Joseph Hospital and later as a quality control inspector for Samsonite Luggage until her retirement. She also made professional wedding cakes.
She was a member of the Catholic Church and a life member of the VFW Auxiliary 4688 of Imperial.
She was preceded in death by her parents, William and Marie Priest; husband, Frank Buczek; sister, Clara and husband, Dale Farmer; and brother, Frank Priest.
Survivors include her children, Andy and husband, Greg Feese of Denver, Russ Buczek of Imperial and Chuck and wife, Ginny Buczek of Denver; sister, Vivian Todd of Imperial; brothers, Donald Priest of Fort Lyon, Colo., Lavern and wife, Karen Priest of Lincoln; sister-in-law, Marilyn (Priest) Walker of Ogallala; six grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
Mass of Christian Burial was Saturday, Aug. 1, 2009, at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Imperial with the Rev. Bernard Lorenz officiating. Interment was at Meadow Lawn Cemetery at Hamlet.
