FRIEND -- Doris G. Bauer, 95, died Saturday (Aug. 1, 2009), at Milder Manor in Lincoln.

She was born July 24, 1914, at Friend, to William George and Mattie Elizabeth (Hudson) Scheidt. She attended Friend Public School and graduated with the Class of 1931 and furthered her education by attending Nebraska Wesleyan. At the age of 14 she began to play the organ for the Methodist Church in Friend.

Doris married Robert Bauer. They began their married life in Friend and moved to McCook in 1945 where she continued to serve as organist of the McCook Methodist Church. She also was secretary for her husband's real estate business in McCook. She also gave piano and organ lessons while in McCook.

She was a member of the United Methodist Church in Friend and later with the church in McCook. She was also a member of the Order of Eastern Star, Rose Standish Chapter No. 165, Friend and PEO Chapter GQ in Lincoln. She was a member of the Willard Sorority at Nebraska Wesleyan. In 1993, Doris moved to Lincoln and lived at Grammacy Hill and The Legacy before moving to Milder Manor in 2001.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Robert in 1991, brother-in-law, Al Kuper.

Survivors include her son, Bill Bauer of New York City, N.Y.; and daughter, Betty Whitney of Lincoln; a sister, June Kuper of Lincoln,; two grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

A funeral service will be Friday (Aug. 14, 2009), 10 a.m., at Milder Manor in Lincoln, with the Rev. Kirk Langer officiating. Interment will be in Andrew Cemetery at Friend with the Rev. Dr. Paixao Baptista officiating.

Visitation is one hour prior to the service at Milder Manor.
