OBERLIN -- Elaine L. Cody Thomas, 91, died Friday (July 31, 2009) in Oberlin.
She was born Feb. 8, 1918, in Decatur County to Weaver F. and Alice L. (Ambler) Van Vleet. She grew up on a farm in Decatur County and attended Locust Grove School and Decatur Community High School graduating in 1937.
On Aug. 7, 1937, she married Eldon Cody in Norton, Kan. They lived in Oberlin, where she was a homemaker. On July 4, 1992, she married Geoffrey "Jeff" Thomas in Oberlin.
She was a member of the United Church of Oberlin, Order of Eastern Star and Alpha Kappa Club.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husbands, Eldon Cody and Jeff Thomas and stepson, Elwin Thomas.
Survivors include her sons, Roger and wife, Marcalene Cody of Columbia, Mo., and Leland and wife, Peggy Cody of Midwest City, Okla.; daughter, Connie Hogg of Midwest City, Okla.; step-daughter-in-law, Kay Thomas of Loveland, Colo.; sisters, Barbara Castor of Oberlin and Beverly Eiler of McCook; eight grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren.
Services were today at Pauls Funeral Home in Oberlin with the Rev. Judi Stricker officiating. Interment was in the Oberlin Cemetery.
Memorials may be given to the United Church of Oberlin.
