Crick leads state amateur by one stroke

OMAHA -- Brandon Crick, a University of Nebraska golfer from McCook, carded his second straight 5-under-par 67 to take a one-shot lead Wednesday after two rounds of the Nebraska State Amateur golf tournament at Omaha's Ironwood Golf & Country Club.

Crick, the 2007 tournament champion, is at 134. One shot back after a 68 is O'Neill's John Hurley, a Texas A&M golfer who shared the first-round lead with Crick.

Omaha golfers took the next four spots with Andrew Storm (138) and Bobby Knowles (141) also shooting 68s and Blake Giroux and Ryan Nietfeldt, a former Husker, each shooting a second-straight 71 to tie for fifth at 142.

Lincoln's David Easley (71) and Austin Zimmerman (72) join Omaha's E.J. Hamilton (72) in a tie for seventh at 143 and Lincoln's Ben Tewes is 10th at even-par 144 after shooting a 69 on Wednesday.

Defending champion Jayson Brueggemann of Lincoln shot a 4-over 76 and is 16 shots back heading into today's third round. The tournament ends on Friday.

Three other former champions made the cut: Fremont's John Sajevic (145), three-time champ Larry Sock of Lincoln (150) and Ed Person of Omaha (151).
