ELWOOD -- Raleigh D. Nott, 90, died Saturday (July 18, 2009) at Elwood Care Center in Elwood.
He was born Dec. 15, 1918, at Elwood to Elias "Lyle" and Amalia (Huckfeldt) Nott. He was a life long resident of Gosper County. He graduated from Elwood High School in 1937. Following graduation he helped with the construction of Johnson Lake and canal.
He married Eleanor Schneider on Nov. 30, 1947, at St John's Lutheran Church in Eustis. They farmed and raised cattle south of Elwood for many years. They moved to Elwood in 1994. He moved to Elwood Care Center in September of 2007.
He served as Gosper County Commissioner from 1971 until 1988 and was one of the founding Fathers of the Gosper County Senior Center. He was a member of Our Redeemer Lutheran Church, VFW Post No. 290 and American Legion Post, all of Elwood.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one daughter, Sharol in 1959; brother, Lyle Wayne Nott; and two sisters, Wilma Tull and Carol Jean Nott.
Survivors include his wife, Eleanor of Elwood; four sons, Jerry Nott of Grand Island, Norman Nott and wife, Janet of Grand Island, Billy Nott and wife, Char of Arapahoe and Raleigh Nott of Johnson Lake; nine grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
Funeral services will be Tuesday at 10:30 a.m., with the Rev. Jeff Ernstmeyer officiating. Burial will be in Elwood Cemetery with military honors at graveside.
Viewing and visitation will be today at Our Redeemer Lutheran Church in Elwood from 4 - 8 p.m., and prior to services on Tuesday at the church.
