Wild 'n' wooly

Friday, July 17, 2009

Bulls and steers and sheep are center-stage at the Furnas County Fair rodeo Thursday evening in Beaver City. Bull-fighters Aaron "Freight Train" Bethel of Holbrook, top, and "Flyin' Ryan" Davis of Beaver City move in to help bull-rider Trey Kerner of Sutherland, after he earned 80 points on the back of the Rodeo Rose Productions bull named "Alpo." Russ Wubbenhorst of Heartwell and Justen Nokes of McCook (right) team up to snag a steer in 7.1 seconds. And on the "wooly" side of the action, Dalton Mues of Bartley rides "Lambchop" for a hard-earned dollar bill in the mutton bustin'. Furnas County Fair activities continue today with the 4-H beef and dog shows this morning and afternoon, and the second performance of the rodeo, starting at 8 p.m. Saturday will be highlighted by the livestock auction at 10 a.m. and the demolition derby at 7:30 p.m.
