BARTLEY -- Martha E. Brooks, 83, died Wednesday (July 1, 2009) at her home in Bartley.
She was born in Cambridge on Jan. 12, 1926, to Leo and Edith (Baker) McKillip. She attended Cambridge High School and graduated in 1944.
She was married to Bruce Brooks Sr. on Jan 8, 1944. She worked several jobs around Cambridge, the Locker and as a waitress, but the farm was her main work. She raised sheep along with many other farm duties. After her retirement she worked for the Cambridge Public Schools.
She lived on her parent's farm south of Cambridge until a year and a half ago when she bought a house in Bartley.
She was a member of the St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Cambridge and the Altar society. In the early 60s she was active with the Cambridge Saddle Club.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; two daughters, Susan and an infant daughter, Nancy: granddaughter-in-law, Donnie Kay Farr: and a brother, Leo.
Survivors include her son Bruce "Butch" and wife, Dot Brooks of Cambridge; two daughters, Mary Rock of Bartley and Ann and husband, Stan Farr of Farnam: 13 grandchildren; and 20 great-grandchildren;
A Memorial Mass will be Wednesday, at 10:30 a.m., with Father Robert Barnhill officiating. Inurnment will be in the St. John's Catholic Cemetery in Cambridge.
Rosary will be recited at before services at 9:30 a.m., Wednesday at the church.
Memorials may be left in her name at the Lockenour-Jones Mortuary.
