BENKELMAN -- Bessie Jean Hendrix, 88, died Monday (June 22, 2009) at Dundy County Hospital in Benkelman.
She was born June 17, 1921, in Cheyenne County in the Big Timber Community to George and Grace (Amsberry) Seitz, and
She married Harry A. Hendrix on Feb. 2, 1942, at St. Francis. Shortly after, Harry was transferred to England where he served his country during World War II, while she remained home and worked at Ketler's Café. She worked for many years at the hospital in Benkelman in both their dietary and kitchen departments. She later worked as a florist when her daughter, Trudy, opened "TLC Floral" in Benkelman. She retired in 1994.
She was preceded in death by her parents, George and Grace Seitz; husband, Harry "Dick" Hendrix; daughter, Trudy Wiese; son, Rick Hendrix; brothers, Bob Sietz and Jean Sietz; sisters, Rosie Petit, Dorothy Johnson, Violet "Dell" Blankinship, her twin sister, Jessie Stroup, Ann Ketler, and Alice Brannan; and one great-grandson, Clay Pierson.
Survivors include her daughter, Judy Aeby of Benkelman; seven grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Funeral services will be Thursday at 10:30 a.m. (MDT) at Forch Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. George Matthews officiating. Interment will follow services at the Benkelman Cemetery.
Visitation will be at the funeral chapel in Benkelman on today until 5 p.m.
A memorial has been established in her name.
