Six McCook Community College student-athletes recognized for 2008-09; Grant, Hale named top male, female by MCC Boosters

Six McCook Community College student/athletes were recognized for the 2008-2009 academic year as Athletes of the Year in their individual sports.

Nominated by their respective coaches, the following athletes were selected by sport:

Baseball -- Taylor Trotter, Littleton, Colo. He will graduate this summer, associate/science. Major: Fire science. Parents: Tracy and Kelli Trotter.

Men's basketball -- Ronnell Grant II, Tucson, Ariz. MCC graduate 2009, associate/arts. Major: Business administration. Parents: Ronnell and Della Grant.

Golf: Preston Hueftle, McCook. MCC graduate 2009, associate/applied science. Major: Industrial technology. Parents: Dorene Hoffman.

Women's basketball: Julia Hale, Sturgis, S.D., freshman, associate/science program. Major: Clinical psychology. Parents: Lauri and Ron Finger, Jeff Hale.

Softball: Tiffany Lokken, Grand Rapids, Minn., MCC graduate 2009, associate/arts. Parents: Larry Lokken and Susan Carol.

Volleyball: Chelsey Quigley, Indianola. MCC graduate 2009, associate/science. Major: Pathological therapy. Parents: Perry and Jeanine Quigley.

From these six outstanding athletes, who were also leaders in the classroom and among their peers, the MCC Indian Boosters selected the overall male and female athletes for the year.

This special recognition was awarded to Ronnell Grant and Julia Hale.

The MCC Indian Boosters, Inc. is a non-profit organization formed in 1996 to support McCook Community College through its sports programs.

Last year there were approximately 120 full-time student-athletes attending MCC in six sports: men's and women's basketball, volleyball, golf, baseball and softball.

Along with sponsoring the Adopt-an-Athlete Program, the MCC Boosters provide book scholarship funds, publish the sports media guides, assist with the purchase of uniforms and equipment, provide some meals for athletes when the dorm is closed, sponsor special events and promotions and assist with improvements to playing fields and the gym.
