WAUNETA -- Elinor Jean Blobaum, 88, died Friday (June 19, 2009) at Linden Court Nursing Home in North Platte.
She was born Jan. 24, 1921, in Hayes County to George William and Elsie (Israel) Branum. She attended country grade school and graduated from Wauneta High School in 1938. She continued her education at the University of Nebraska at Kearney and received her bachelor's degree. She taught elementary grade school for many years in several different locations including Palisade, Wauneta, Enders and Champion.
On Aug. 31, 1945, she married George Henry "Shorty" Blobaum. They farmed south of Wauneta. Her husband died in 1989, and she moved into Wauneta, where she made her home for several years. In February of 2005, she moved to Linden Court Nursing Home in North Platte where she lived until her death.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, George; brothers, Earl, Dale and Milton "Bud"; four sisters, Nella Bailey, Erma Newman, Ola Dudek and Wilma Cochran.
Survivors include her sister, Mary Willis of Littleton, Colo.; sister-in-law, Hazel Self of Denver, Colo.; nieces and nephews, Pat Kitt and husband, Bob of Wauenta, Ronald Cochran and wife, Jean of Grant, Sherry Carfield and husband, Ken of Culbertson, Cindy Bundy and husband, Tim of North Platte and Myrna Albert and husband, Kenneth of Culbertson.
Funeral services will be Wednesday, 11 a.m. (MT) at Redeemer Lutheran Church in Wauneta with the Rev. Greg Stuckwisch officiating. Interment will follow at Riverside Cemetery at Wauneta.
Visitation will be Wednesday before the services at the church.
Memorials may be given to the church.
