Tuesday, June 23, 2009

NORTH PLATTE -- The Board of Governors at Mid Plains Community College will be asked for the second time to fund an Area Student Success and Retention coordinator position at McCook Community College. The item is on the agenda at its regular meeting 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, room 200 at the North Platte Campus.

Board members postponed voting on this item at their May meeting in order to find out more information on the new position, including impact on the budget, job description and what kind of retention plan MCC currently offers.

If approved, the position would pay up to $40,000, depending on qualifications.

Kristi Salestrom is the Director of Student Success and Retention at the North Platte campus and oversees the entire program at MPCC.

Other action items the board will be asked to vote on include:

* second reading of three board policies: policy 3210, tuition and fees; policy 3601, grants gifts and donations and policy 4110: delegation of employment authority to president

* the expenditure of $103,133.04 for the annual insurance trust payment.

* authorize the use of cash reserves in order to continue college operations until the 2009-10 budget is adopted.

* approve and submit the Fire Science Technology Program Review to the Coordinating Commission for Postsecondary Education with a recommendation for continued full approval.

* approve and submit the Associate of Applied Science in Business Program Review to the Coordinating Commission for Postsecondary Education with a recommendation for continued full approval.

The board may also take action regarding the contract of MPCC President Dr. Michael Chipps.

Prior to the regular meeting, the board will meet for a work session at 4 p.m. in Room 200 to discuss other items, with no action taken at this meeting.

Board members will consider the Area Student Success and Retention coordinator position; the third draft of the 2009-10 college budget and intercollegiate athletic scholarships.
