BEAVER CITY -- Evelyn M. Keezer, 88, died Wednesday (June 10, 2009) at Beaver City Manor.

She was born March 7, 1921, at Beaver City to Christopher and Ethel (Turner) Clason. She grew up in Beaver City and graduated from Beaver City High School in 1939. Following graduation she taught rural school south of Beaver City for several years.

On July 25, 1944, she married Jess Keezer on the her family's farm. They farmed with her family for several years, before moving to several communities in Oregon, Norton, Kan., and Beaver City. In 1965, they moved to Denver, Colo. After a year in Denver, they returned to Beaver City, where she lived until her death.

She was a cook at the Beaver City Schools from 1966 to 1974. Her husband died March 9, 1999. She then moved to Beaver City Plaza and lived there until 2006, when she moved to the Beaver City Assisted Living. She then moved to the Beaver City Manor in 2007.

She was a member of the Grace Bethren Church in Beaver City since 1945, where she was a Sunday School Superintendent for 20 years, Sunday school teacher, church clerk and treasurer, deaconess and member of the Women Missionary Council. She was also a member of the Royal Neighbors of America and helped with the Cub Scouts, Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Jess; son, LeRoy in 1984; and brother, Wayne in 1964.

Survivors include her sons, Ray Keezer and wife, Linda of Grand Island and Randy Keezer and wife, Joy of Spokane, Wash.; daughters, Connie and husband, Robert Leonard of Beaver City and Lola and husband, Rod Yoder of Warsaw, Ind.; daughter-in-law, Jean Keezer-Clayton of Holdrege; sister, Doris Marquis of Holdrege; 13 grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be Tuesday, 10:30 a.m., at Grace Bethren Church in Beaver City with the Revs. Dwain Fowler and Jean Keezer-Clayton officiating. Burial will be at Mount Hope Cemetery at Beaver City.

Viewing and visitation will be today until 9 p.m., at Wenburg Funeral Home in Beaver City and prior to services on Tuesday at the church.
