THORNTON, Colo. -- Margie Kompus Howland, 88, died Friday (May 29, 2009) in Thornton.
She was born June 10, 1920, to Mathias and Emma (Kleidosty) Berger of rural Herndon.
On Aug. 25, 1937, she married Francis Kompus in Herndon. He died Oct. 8, 1959.
On May 12, 1962, she married Larry Howland in McCook. In 1968, they moved to Strasburg, Colo. She worked at the Beauty Academies in McCook and Aurora, Colo. In 1999, they moved to Thornton, where she lived until her death.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Francis Kompus; parents, Mathias and Emma Berger; great-grandson, Nicholas Hosaka; brother, Raymond Berger; and sisters, Monica Meyer, Loretta Leitner and Florence Springer.
Survivors include her husband, Larry Howland; children, Larry and wife, Berniece Kompus of Thornton, Donna and husband, Gary LeSage of Salina, Kan., and Dick and wife, Kasey Kompus of Trenton; and numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
Mass of Christian Burial will be Saturday, 10 a.m., at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Herndon with the Rev. Daniel Scheetz officiating. Inurnment will be in the St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery.
Rosary will be Friday at 7 p.m., at the church. There is no visitation, the family has chosen cremation.
Memorials may be given in her name for Masses or to the church.
